Brother Birthday

My big brother is a farmer and or logger at heart! He's been clearing land that my Dad had planted as Christmas trees which over the years grew into quite the forest!  With the land he's cleared my brother has planted grapes - he's starting a vineyard!!  What fun - the family says the old barn should be his tasting room when he's all finished!  But he says to slow down - he's doing things as he goes along and doesn't have huge plans.  He just loves doing it!

He has an excavator to help do the heavy work, but he has a tractor to do smaller jobs.  I found this neat tractor stamp from Our Craft Lounge that I like a LOT, found some neat paper from my stash that I got from my favorite craft store, Memories of Time, did some cutting and quilling, and voila - I have a birthday card for my brother!!!

Memories

A few weeks ago my brother, sister, and I had a chance to visit our Aunt and Uncle who had just moved into a retirement village.  They've always been one of my favorite couples as they've gone through life and for such wonderful people, they've seen more than their share of tribulations.  When going to their home throughout the years, it has been warm and welcoming, and visiting their new home is no different.  They have cherished items including a painting of my Mother's and several lighthouses.  They always loved going to the coast as they live inland where it gets very warm and the decorations always have reminded them of the cool breezes and beautiful sights.  I've thought about them every day since we visited and I don't want them thinking I've forgotten about them.
After I snapped these pictures I added the sentiment "You're never more than a thought away" from the SU set " Whimsical Words".  I used the tutorial for the Sailor's Knot from Paper Pursuits.

Pablo Graduation

Pablo is a Rotary exchange student from Spain.  It has been the honor and pleasure of my Rotary Club to host him, mentor him, and enjoy him while he's been here in America!  He has grown so much in his understanding of people, his skill with the English language has grown immensely, and he has truly become our own child and our friend!
One of the culminating events of his year here was his graduation from high school.  He's only 16 years old, so what a great accomplishment for him!  He will be returning home in just about a week, and we're going to miss him, his smile, and his humor!  I'm sure we will continue to be part of his life once he return's to Spain because he is now a member of our family!

Grandson's 8th Grade Graduation

Card closed
It's hard to believe, but my Grandson just graduated from the 8th grade!  He's such a great guy and a great student, too!  He received awards for his work in Science and History.  His history teacher says "Brendan has the knack for asking the right questions at the right time"!   Following the end of school he was fortunate enough to be able to go on the 8th Grade history trip to Washington D.C. and New York City.  The itinerary is amazing - I wish I could have tagged along!!!
In honor of and congratulations for his accomplishments I made this graduation card.  I used SU's "Go Graduate" stamp set, which you just have to love!  I also googled his school, printed the mascot, cut him out, and adhered it to the card which I cut from SU Garden Green which matches his school colors.  The card idea is one I got from a Splitcoaststampers tutorial called Grad Hat Fun Fold Card http://dostamping.typepad.com/dostamping_with_dawn/2010/06/grads-dads-grad-hat-fun-fold-card.html  The part I loved best?  The tassel..which was very easy!!
